Red is a strong color; a little goes a long way. It's also a popular color in the kitchen. It's the color of flame, of tomatoes, of ripe fruit. We see red in kitchen tools and tableware all the time -- and now we're going to look at some kitchens that make great use of this powerful color. Some use it sparingly, to liven up a monchromatic color scheme. Others go all out, with whole walls of crimson cabinets!
Come look, and tell us: do you have red in your kitchen?
1-2. East #22: Becky's Careful Color - This is a subtle use of red; just a couple pops to define the kitchen. (And I think I have that same pot.)
3. Pearl Lam's Shanghai Loft - Wow - this one is anything but subtle. Dizzy! Would you cook in here?
4. Kyle's Colorful Boston Perch - Kyle piled on bright red color with her red shelf, colorful textiles, and cushions on her built-in banquette.
5-6. Perry Street Duplex - Here's another bold red choice; the entire kitchen is glossy and wine-colored.
7. Little French Kitchens - This is a small, inexpensive modular kitchen from France.
8. Celeste's Mount Pleasant Loft - Red can easily be added to a kitchen with just a little can of paint. Paint around your white or wood cabinets and you have a strong statement -- even in a rental kitchen.
9. Artsy Family's Color is for Happiness - A favorite from the 2007 Fall Colors contest. Baby blue and dark red! This shows how well red can work in a more traditional context.
10. Stephanie & Bob's Primary Colors - And if you paint, you don't even need to do a whole wall. Look at this red stripe!
11. Red, White and Light Blue - Another red and blue combo, with red floors!
12. Emma's Affordable Mid Century Gem - Red countertops instead of floor, this time. We like the green and red; a good vintage look.
13. Anna's Old-and-New Newburgh Victorian - This bold black and white kitchen gets really defined by the spots of red.
14. Danielle & Erik's Canal-Front Flat - Love the cupboards and floor in this vibrant Dutch flat.
15. Daniel and Jason's Red, Grey, and Green Kitchen - A more orangey red, with shades of grey and green.

Bacsac Bacsquare 04...

Ow. Number three makes me worry about vertigo. I like the subtle ones best.
I love #9 - the one with the baby blue walls and red cabinets. So pretty!
yep, my kitchen is white with lots of red and some black. it's tiny, cute, and retro. i love it.
of these photos, bottom row, left, is my favorite.
Red as an accent is cheerful. Red cabinets are too intense for me.
I was raised in a "kitchens should have blue" house and it's kind of stuck.
the red knobs on my Wolf range...
I agree that red cabinets seem too much.
I have marble counters and oak-stained cabinets, so my red Le Creuset canisters and cookware help brighten things up :)
I have a red Kitchen Aid Mixer. It "pops" with the pine coloured cabinets and floors. Love it! :)
I have a red bread box and a few red kitchen towels.
I love the glossy red kitchen. It would be such an improvement over the industrial beige of my apartment kitchen.
Yep - I try to buy all my kitchen stuff in Red! I love it as an accent color... cabinets not so much.
in my last place, I was allowed to paint, and I painted my kitchen a beautiful red color. in this place, I can't paint, however. I still have red everything though, including red curtains and my prized red kitchen aid mixer. :)
A friend once walked into my kitchen and said it reminded him of a Target commercial...I took it as a compliment. While the walls and cabinets are bright white, and the floor is classic checkerboard, my mixer, my tea kettle, my coffee maker, my microwave, my knives, my pots and pans, and many of my dish cloths/towels are red.
i'm a red girl too!
Red Kitchens are great!! I've got a soft spot for old homes, so all three that I've ever bought had out-dated kitchens that I could not afford to renovate. The solution....red walls!! You would be amazed at how great bright red walls can make 60-70's goldenrod countertops and cheap maple-colored cabinets look.
Seriously. If you have an outdated kitchen, invest in some red paint and go to town. Helpful tip....paint the kitchen a medium grey first. You cannot paint over white or any other light color w/ red.....you'll be putting 15 coats on and you will still not have an even color. This is the voice of experience talking!
Yep. RED is the best kitchen accent color.
I love the shiny red kitchen. It's sparkly and glam.
My kitchen is all white, black and celery green. Any red and it would look like christmas year round.
I love these red kitchens, but I painted mine BM Million Dollar Red and against the landlord standard 80s wood Cabinets, it looks just hideous and makes the cabinets stand out even more. Just saying.
wow. I soooo wish I had red in my kitchen. That looks great.
Big fan of red here!

I have these red lacquer chairs:

and red Wolf range knobs. And a dark red etagere. Rest of the kitchen and great room is greyish-tan limestone, exposed brick, natural cherry wood, shoji doors, dark grey upholstery with aluminum legs, stainless steel, gray-green glass tile, white/jade/black granite, Carrera marble, tribal area rug with dark red, green, tan, etc.
But I always wanted a red, red, red kitchen. Photo number 5 was my dream kitchen for many years. You need the right home for that.
yes, we do have red in our kitchen...last year we painted the walls a deep deep red and absolutely love it! Our accent colors are black (black granite counters, black chalkboard fridge, black floor) and stainless steel...the cabinets are honey wood with frosted glass which lightens the room...we even painted the kitchen screen door outside the same red!...love #5 too!
Wow the red kitchen is pretty amazing.
We are painting our kitchen walls a rosy brick red color tonight and hopefully installing our new white cabinets tomorrow! I look forward to comparing pics of the finished product!
