This Week's Assignment: De-Clutter & Reorganize Tools
Cure Clock: 2 weekends down! 2 weeks remaining
Cure Takers: 2603 and counting...
Happy Monday, Cure-takers! You're now deep into Week 2 of your Kitchen Cure, and we are curious about how it went last weekend. Did you hit those cupboards full of pots and pans? Did you thin out your duplicate tools? What happened to the bread machine — did it stay or go? Tell us how it went last weekend!

This was a halfhearted attempt at organizing things about a month ago.
Still have a way to go! - minimallyinvasivenj
Here's the assignment for this week; you have until Friday to get it all done! Did you get a head start on this assignment over the weekend?
• Kitchen Cure Week #2: De-Clutter & Reorganize Tools
I personally didn't get to this week's assignment yet; I have a whole shelf (see above) of dishes and serving platters that don't get used often enough. Some of these dishes will be going to the thrift store later this week. I also have a couple big old wooden cutting boards that are warped and not really safe for kitchen use anymore. These are either getting recycled, or getting used as kneeling platforms for working in the garden.
What about you? Did you get rid of some things you don't need? Isn't it freeing? I find it exhilarating to clean out tools and equipment I've somehow accumulated, and to give them away. Tell us how it's going, and if you need any encouragement!
We are still LOVING your photos on the Kitchen Cure Flickr Pool! It's so great to see how you are documenting your Kitchen Cure. Keep 'em coming; we'll be highlighting some of our favorite photos every morning on The Kitchn!

Straw Mat from The ...

I've collected three big bags full of stuff that I'll take to charity some day soon. Luckily they have a store just around the corner, so I won't have any excuse for not taking them there before the big moving day next week. I'm also very glad that I participated in the Fall Cure last year, so it's not too bad now. Among the things are kitchen equipment of different kinds that have become useless to me; doubles or not in very good shape anymore, but they can still be used. I *really* want to start the "real" cure already!
The breadmaker stays! But then, it's only one of three appliances that I have -- it, my toaster, and a late '80s hand mixer that used to be my mom's. I use all three!
I'm skipping the equipment cleanout because I don't really have anything extra. I'm using the time to really scrub the fridge and work on the inoperable drawers in my ca. 1900 cabinets!
I will be doing this, but my fiance passed away this morning, so my plans for the week are pretty much all shot to hell-in-a-handbasket. I may have to double up somewhere, but I will get the assignments done by the end of the project.
The roomie and I have been enjoying finding things in our fridge and "pantry" cupboards this week, and I've already gone through some of the multiple boxes of different teas.
I'm sorry to hear that, otherdeb! Warm thoughts from here, Nina
Hey, I just joined! I wish I'd seen that you guys were doing a cure before we started our major kitchen renovations. We just had a new floor put in, and I also painted EVERYTHING including the cabinets. We installed new hardware and a new ceiling fan too.
BUT - I haven't done a very serious purge. Not everything is back in the cabinets yet. Our carpenter friend is building us another cabinet on a wall to replace our cheapo Target kitchen cart, which will give me 38" of MUCH needed counterspace, as well as more storage.
So I will work on purging and organizing tools this week! I'll try to get some "before" pictures, wish I'd taken a bunch before we started this whole thing! Oh well. I'll start now!
The breadmaker STAYED. But it's been relocated. My cabinets are all too tiny to hold it and it started to look sloppy sitting on top of my fridge... it's been moved to the bottom shelf of my linen closet next to the sewing machine.
Thanks for reminding me. I'll be making a batch of whole wheat rolls this weekend to stash away in my freezer. :)
Thanks, Nina.
I'm trying to get caught up now, but my roommate is pulling a lot of passive/aggressive crap, like freaking out if I ask her to help by matching containers to lids, so we can figure out what we will keep.
I did get some standing dishracks for the dishes, so that the roomie can get dishes in and out of the cupboard...she claims it's too hard to lift four or five dishes to get one out. I will succeed at this. No matter how long it takes me to get caught up.
Just so you guys know, I'm still plugging away at this, even though it feels like it's taking forever.
But you guys have given me some great ideas, and I'm still gonna get through this, no matter how long it takes.
