• This Week: Clean out Equipment, Tools & Gadgets and More Deep Cleaning
• Time Left: Two weekends down. 2 1/2 weeks to go!
• Cure Takers: 2500 and counting... (newbies, sign up here)
Hello Cure-takers! We're really into the thick of things now with the second Kitchen Cure assignment last Friday. Did you have time over the weekend to go through your tools, gadgets, and cookware? What did you get rid of? What did you keep? Are your drawers more organized? Tell us how it's going!
This is my personal favorite part of the Kitchen Cure; I feel like it's really the meat of it for my kitchen. Pots and pans get shifted around during the cooking seasons; drawers get jumbled and disorderly, and little gadgets creep into the kitchen. What's really necessary? What makes your kitchen feel beautiful, healthy, and organized? Do you just have too much stuff? Is it too cluttered? Then donate it! Get rid of it!
• Kitchen Cure Week 2: Clean Out Tools & Gadgets
And then, when you have really decided what to keep, go to town on organizing and putting things in their proper place. I did quite a bit of this in the last couple of Kitchen Cures, as I was in a new kitchen and still figuring everything out. Here's a look back at what I did:
• Kitchen Cure Update: New Pot Lid Rack and Better Storage
• Kitchen Cure Check-In: Decluttered Cabinets and Storage
Next week I'll show you my own flurry of special projects, which I finished up this past summer: Painting the kitchen a fresh new color, refurbishing a breakfast nook, and turning an unused coat closet into a cheery pantry.
Tell us how it's going, and if you need any encouragement!
We are LOVING your photos on the Kitchen Cure Flickr Pool! It's so great to see how you are documenting your Kitchen Cure. Keep 'em coming!

TW Salt Mill by Wil...

I got rid of quite a few small kitchen tools I never used (corn cob cutter, apple corer, corn holders, mulitple corkscrews, to name just a few) and an old espresso machine that hasn't been used in years as we use the stovetop bialetti now. What I wish I could do is figure out a storage system to put everythign in. The boxes above look so organized.
SO... I'm WAY behind! I haven't even completed the first week. Grr... starting on it tonight in hopes of completing both weeks! Wish me luck. :)
It's very encouraging to see everyone's progress though!
I haven't trashed much, but my kitchen has gotten a thorough reorganizing with several occasional use appliances going behind closed doors.
My kitchen is already much more cheery and organized, though one 'island' of clutter remains.
@sewtrashy- You can do it! Good luck!!
I was so excited to get things organized! I now have like with like and it just makes sense.
I gave myself some tough love this weekend and used the "1 year" rule. If I hadn't touched/used it in the past year it went into the donate bag. Already have 3 bags of donate items.
I still have the dreaded "junk drawer" to tackle as well as some cupboards with a mish mash of stuff (tools, household supplies, etc), I want to make some sense out of those.
Does anyone know what the small storage pots in the picture on the right are made of and where they can be found? It looks like they're closed up with cork and I'm wondering what's inside. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
@jdemera, the small pots are actually salt and pepper shakers from heath ceramics. The stoppers are cork and the body is clay.
Having a nine month old boy cruising around the kitchen i would appreciate any tips with babies and toddlers in mind. At this point I am only putting safe stuff in lower cabinets. It is working out OK. I have big plastic bins with the pet food in one and Paper towels in another. I have kept the trash under the sink and am hoping for the best. The Island lower cabinets are empty now. Wiped out and waiting for inspiration. Baby stuff? Muffin tins and saucepans?
We are a family of work at homers. and so I try to cook a healthy often hot homemade lunch every work day as it gives us a nice break.
I love the specific instructions you are giving on how to clean. I am not a great cleaner but I love things clean. Our lunches are our main meal of the day. It has got to be easier cleaning up after...
