This Week's Assignment: Deep Clean & Beautify
Cure Clock: 3 weekends down! 1 and a half weeks to go!
Cure Takers: 2649
Happy Monday, Cure-takers! You're now over halfway through the Kitchen Cure, and we are curious about how it went last weekend. Your assignment was to deep-clean, add some beauty, and pick a special project. How did this go? Did you do some scrubbing this past weekend?

From Curee Amburgerbot: "My special project was to paint this white and I love the outcome! I also got some bright baskets to hold little things. My next project is painting a pretty salad bowl to take the place of those casserole dishes. (See Amburgerbot's cupboard BEFORE here)
Here's the assignment for this week; you have until Friday to get it all done! Did you get a head start on this assignment over the weekend?
• Kitchen Cure Week #3: Deep Clean & Beautify
I personally had a huge weekend for my kitchen: My husband and father-in-law installed new under-cabinet lighting! This was a big step forward for my little kitchen, and so needed.
What about you? Did you find a good special project to take your kitchen to a new level of comfort, beauty, or functionality? Did you get those last corners cleaned out? Do you need some encouragement or help to get anything in particular done?
We are LOVING your photos on the Kitchen Cure Flickr Pool! It's so great to see how you are documenting your Kitchen Cure. Keep 'em coming; we'll be highlighting some of our favorite photos every morning on The Kitchn!

I deep cleaned the kitchen and added a vase of fresh flowers at the sink. My special project is to donate items I no longer need to those in need (family needs are posted each Thursday in the Jamaican newspaper, The Gleaner). I have truly enjoyed curing with you all.
I am a bit behind and plan on deep cleaning the next three nights (a little at a time) when I get home from work. Fortunately, there is not much that is really dirty except the floor (in dire need of a mopping). I also didn't have much to get rid of since I didn't have much to start with and pared down during the last cure. I still need to tackle the tupperware drawer though :/
I ordered my beautification bit - a new fiestaware pitcher to use as a vase to keep fresh flowers in - and chose my special project - I am adding shelving to an odd, underutilized alcove so I can extend/replace my pantry (currently an awkwardly placed and shelved micro-cupboard).
clean and complete with a new chalkboard door! Flowers later this week.
Sadly, I'm still behind, between my beloved's passing and my roomie being resistant to doing anything that might take effort on her part.
Yesterday, I got everything pulled out of the first overhead cabinet we were working on, and when I got down from the ladder and asked her to start matching containers and lids while my ex drove me to the laundry and back, she complained that she thought we were supposed to do it together, not that she would have to do it on her own. When I pointed out that I had been the one running up and down the ladder, and would be the one doing that again to put things back, she then said that she guessed someone had to reprogram her so that she liked housework. Sigh. If she *ever* did housework, the place wouldn't look like a pig sty.
Anyway, I plug away at this, despite resistance from her, and my own inertia, because I love being able to find things when I want to use them. It will get done, but probably not be finished until after the project has officially ended.
This is the only time when I think I'm lucky to have a small kitchen. I was able to throw away things, organized and cleaned out cupboard, pantry and counter all in one day. I love this cure thing! What's next?!?!?!
I spent four hours just getting the 34 handles of cupboards and drawers clean. YUCK! Boy did I need this. New shelf paper, too! Didn't get as much done as hoped, but it makes a big difference to me. Many thanks.
