Kitchen Before & After: A Cookie Cutter Kitchen Gets Some Personality

Kitchen Before & After: A Cookie Cutter Kitchen Gets Some Personality

Melissa of the blog The Inspired Room had gotten tired of the cookie cutter kitchen that, while perfectly serviceable, didn't quite fit her family or her style. As a frequent entertainer with daughters who also love to cook, she needed a more open floor plan and something that didn't look like every other house on the block. Check out how she transformed her space.

Can you believe this is the same kitchen? By getting rid of that counter and bar that cut the room into two distinct spaces, Melissa opened up the floor plan making it easier to fit the whole family in the kitchen at the same time.

Removing the upper cabinets and covering the wall with white subway tile makes the kitchen feel so much brighter and fresher. Luckily, Melissa didn't have to replace any of the cabinets. Instead a fresh coat of paint gave them a new life.

The whole project took about nine months to complete, and they actually gained storage by moving their dishwasher next to the sink and filling the rest of the wall with storage.
