It took a full year for Shavonda and her wife Naomi to get their kitchen to the point where they were satisfied with it. They both knew the light wood cabinets and beige walls wouldn't do, but with drastically different decorating styles, each piece of the puzzle required some compromise.

Take a look at how it all turned out.

What do you think? Shavonda and Naomi replaced the brown tones with shades of cool gray, blue and white. They completely changed the feel of the space without changing some of the major features like the countertops or appliances. Simple updates like paint, new hardware, and, of course, removing the cabinet doors, have given this kitchen a breath of fresh air.

The contrasting colors of the upper and lower cabinets (which we've seen a lot recently), adds to the feeling of lightness in the room.

We also love the fact that so much of the family's personality shows through in the space. While all the accessories are well-coordinated, they aren't overly matching, making the kitchen feel welcoming and lived-in.
