In the fall of 2008 Kim Johnson, co-author of the popular blog Desire to Inspire, remodeled her kitchen in collaboration with Greentea Design, a Toronto-based company. Greentea Design carries a very unique line of Asian-inspired cabinetry, which served as the the design inspiration for the whole remodel. The end result is pretty stunning. See below for more:
Kim chronicles the entire remodel process on her blog, but you can also read details on the Planning, Demolition and Installation, and the Finished Kitchen on Greentea's company blog. The total cost for the renovation start to finish was $32,110. A detailed breakdown can be found here.

is it a big, expensive ordeal to change the gas and water lines to face the other wall in a kitchen project?
LOOKS AMAZING, great space!
For a remodel at my house, it was outside the price range of our budget to move the gas/water lines but it was just a small little project that would have ballooned in price if we'd gone through with all my schemes and dreams. I think it depends on how much you are investing in the remodel and what the final plan is.
Sorry. My first reaction to the "after" picture was: too busy. The dining table is, in a sense, a good idea, but it puts way too much living room feel into the kitchen. Or maybe it is those plastic chairs that are not the universal answer to seating. The rug just completes the clutter. Then I look up to see all of the lighting fixtures with an overall sense of darkness in the room. Perhaps the result would have been better if there had been only half the money to spend.
Wow, that was not what I was expecting at all! I love the rug and I do think it was over-accessoried (looks like a retail showroom rather than a real kitchen to me.) But I think if you were to take about 10% of the accessorizing away, it would be just about perfect...I do like the way it flows into the next room a lot. And the colors are really warm without being too chaotic.
@clode- it depends on what you feel is expensive :)
When we reno'd our kitchen & dining rooms, we swapped the rooms entirely. I don't remember the exact breakdown, but I think it was about $1500 to move the gas & water lines & relocate the steam radiator & then install the DW & sink.
The electrical work was $175/ outlet added (we added 8 in an 11X14 space) plus we added 5 can lights (no recollection what that cost). The cost to remove & dispose of the K & DR ceilings & then put up new ones was the big shocker- $2750. Gulp. So we had to work within our budget & not get a few items we wanted. Still working on saving for a new fridge, 4 years later :)
Regarding the before & after of this post- I really like it! It shows personality & is not just the same old K reno that seems to be everywhere.
What angle is the before picture taken from in reference to the afters? I don't see that slanted ceiling in the before or the exterior door in the afters.
Also, love the cabinets and the kitchen table, not so much with everything else. The mod lighting and the white furniture just seem so much at odds with those beautiful cabinets and dark kitchen table.
A well-done remodel, but it does look awfully crammed full of stuff at this point.
I feel like I've seen this on tv. Was this kitchen done on an HGTV show?
