A few months ago we had Small Cool 2010 running on Apartment Therapy. Recently, one of the contestants home was revisited. We're sure you remember Julie's Cozy & Vibrant. Julie's home is just exactly that &mdash cozy and very vibrant, complete with a vintage kitchen.
Julie is a real estate agent in Portland, Oregan &mdash that certainly explains a lot! Her small 410 square foot home was converted from apartments into condos and she knew the space was plenty for one. She also did her homework and realized that bright and bold colors work beautifully in small spaces.
She was able to pull off a bright pink dining room &mdash not an easy task. While at first it's certainly eye catching, you warm up to it and actually grow to really enjoy it. It's a great offset to the white yet vibrant vintage kitchen. Julie did some remodeling in the kitchen to facilitate her needs and to create more space. She removed an old dishwasher and replaced it with a compact fridge for one. Freeing up the giant space where the fridge used to be created some much needed cabinet space. She had cabinets custom made to match the original still in the kitchen.
The glass cabinet doors are perfect for a small scale kitchen. It adds the illusion of more space because your eyes don't come to a crashing halt on a solid surface. Julie was extremely successful in adding additional space in her kitchen. She found a butcher block table that fits perfectly between the stove and end cases. We're pretty jealous of the built ins and the overall cleanliness of her kitchen!
