No one captured Julia Child, both on camera and off, better than her husband Paul Child. Now available as posters from The Harvard/MIT COOP, this series of photographs just blows us away.
There are the behind-the-scenes shots of Child on the set of her cooking show, caught mid-sentence or sometimes just smiling her singular smile as she waits for the camera to come on. These are classic and encourage us all to laugh at our cooking flops and wield our knives with confidence.
But it's those shots of Child in her most private moments that make my heart twinge. I absolutely love the look of meditative inward calm on her face as she kneads bread dough at an open window in the shot above. I think we're all so used to the exuberant, effusive Julia Child that we forget that she had another side.
