When Jessica and Erik bought their 1,500 sq. ft. Portland house, the kitchen was "almost entirely pink" and "atrocious," as they told Apartment Therapy in this 2009 House Tour. But a little pink wasn't so bad, as they discovered after their DIY kitchen makeover. In fact, it was perfect:
As the couple tells Apartment Therapy:
The layout was funky and made for a lot of dark, unusable spaces. It was also almost entirely pink. We knocked down some walls, took the doors off the upper cabinets, uncovered the original fir floors, and painted everything white except for the vintage Formica countertops. It's the perfect kitchen for us now.
The butcher block is from IKEA, the stainless steel range is from Peerless Premier, and the Jadite knobs and light fixture are from Rejuvenation.
Now that's what we call pretty in pink!

Pink can be challenging. Our open post and beam interior is predominantly pale pink. It has a lot of tongue and groove -- floors, ceilings and partial walls. But that wood is more golden of the classic knotty pine variety. The pink tones that gold down while riffing off the other wood -- mahogany stained massive beams. In some light the pale pink looks like a softened off white while in more intense light it glows its true pale pink.
I enjoyed the contrast color on all the cabinetry knobs in this kitchen.
What is the pinkish paint color in the adjacent room?
I love how relaxing and feminine this all feels without being out-and-out girlish.
