The Kitchen Cure wrapped up last week (we showed you a big gallery of our readers' victories and improvements) but here is just one more inspiring example of a reader significantly improving his kitchen during the Cure. Jeremiah's before and after is pretty impressive!
Jeremiah sent us his before/after with this rather laconic description: "Added a lot of organization and storage with some simple shelves and a pot rack; makes cooking even more enjoyable."
We can imagine; that seems a bit of an understatement. We like the simple wood backing behind the shelves, and we think that this looks far more functional than before. Good job, Jeremiah! Thanks for letting us have a peek.

Amazing Jeremiah!!
Wow, that looks amazing! The plywood backing not only looks very nice (love the rounded corners), but it seems like a great solution for situations where you don't want to make a ton of holes in the wall.
Bravo!
I'm really thrilled that my kitchen got posted! I feel like my description when I submitted it is a little lackluster, so I am going to expand on it a bit. I live in a rental; a house that has been converted into first and second floor apartments. I have a very understanding and flexible landlord, so fixing up the kitchen was always an option, but seeing as it was a rental, a full remodel wasn't really something I wanted to pay for. So I decided to see what I could do with a minimal cash investment. The improvement you see there is the result of applying 2 days worth of labor and $109 into that space. Nearly half of the budget was the cost of the plywood on the walls. I chose to mount the plywood panels for two reasons. First, I wanted freedom to mount hardware anywhere in the area without having to find a stud or insert wall anchors. Second, the house was built in 1893 and plaster walls are just about the most difficult material to drill clean holes in and to hang any thing on. The rest of the budget went to hardware and shelves from Ikea, a hanging wire 3-basket thing, and chain to improve the hanging wire 3-basket thing. Thanks again for posting it!
Jeremiah, this is beautiful! I just saw this picture for the first time since it's being featured for the Fall 2010 Kitchen Cure.
I have a question for you--I noticed you have the Ikea "asker" hanging pot on the left wall, but that you have it hanging on a different rail than what it was made for. Did you have trouble with the original rail too? I can't get the provided hooks to stay on the rail and it is infuriating! I'm going to try gluing them in place with a strong epoxy. Do you find that the pots stay on the rail you're using?
@veggiemar - This response might be a little slow in coming, sorry about that. I never did have the ASKER rail system that the hanging pot was made for, I just used one of the Grundtal "S" hooks for the pot. As for the everything staying on the rail, I've never had a problem. The shelf rack that most of my pots and pans are hanging from has a wood shelf that I added to give me a uniform surface to stack things on. It gave the added bonus of making it impossible to accidentally knock the hooks off of the rack. Hope this helps!
