When Jeanine first moved into her home, there was no kitchen to speak of - just a sink and a broken stove. But after months of both DIY and professional work, including custom-built kitchen cabinets (which she'd originally intended to paint white before deciding she liked the unpainted look too much), countertops, and a wall removal that expanded the dining area, the space became what you see here: a warm and slightly eclectic space, with plenty of natural light, open shelving, and muted colors.

I love this look! It's modern but inviting. I'd love to cook in that kitchen.
In the past, I have been highly skeptical of wooden countertops and islands. Lately however, I have increasingly found myself attracted to designs like this because, as the previous commenter said, it's inviting. I really like all the chalk in the corner of the kitchen too, children love chalkboards and it comes in handy for things like shopping and errand lists.
