- What makes your small kitchen so cool?
- I wanted to bring some masculine, cool elements to the tiny space. So I introduced dark colors and some metal finishes. Also was able to add interesting art pieces.
- Describe a challenge you've overcome or a smart resource you've found for your kitchen.
- My biggest challanges were out dated/brown top cabinets, zero natural light, and lack of storage. I first painted my top cabinets a semi-gloss black and changed out the hardware on both the top and lower cabinets to create some unity. I then, painted the back splash wall a gun metal gray to help with the color contrast of the top and lower cabinets and to help create a focal point. Since there is no window and zero natural light, I added a large mirror to my left wall to help brighten up the space and bounce light around the area. Finally I added some refurbished night stands to give me some additional storage space. I painted the night stands black to compliment the top cabinets. I use one as a microwave stand and pantry and the other as storage for small counter top appliances which keeps my tiny counter space uncluttered.I also found a metal shelf that some one had discarded, hung it on the wall, added some "s" hooks, and attached my pots and pans.
- What's your favorite meal to cook here?
- Oven roasted and stuffed pork loin. Mashed garlic and chive sweet potatoes. Strawberry, onion, and field greens salad with poppy seed dressing.

Awesome! Wish I could be there in person to see it!! As always, you did a smashing-great job!!!
Really great use of the space! I love the addition of the mirror and the striped rug!
Great job and use of space...love the color scheme... artwork and as the other reviews said adding the mirror was brilliant...really opens up the space.
Holy small kitchen. Creative ways to create more counter space (always a poblem in the kicthen)I love this! I'm stealing these decorating ideas... mirror, prints... best small kitchen yet in this competition. Anyone can buy nice cupboards, counters and back splashes, it the decorating that make the space something really special.
I like the touch of red and the sign on the top portion of the frig. The mirror on the left side makes the kitchen look bigger than 42 sq ft.

I love that your tiny kitchen has the feel of a den--cozy with great artwork--yet is still so functional. Wow--who wouldn't want to cook in that room?!
I never thought I would like a black cabinet and black splash kitchen but this one I really like! Very good job!
I keep coming back to this entry--it's just so elegant and different. And I love the fact that the cabinets are one color on top, another on the bottom. Makes it look like furniture versus regular old kitchen cabinets. Really terrific!!!! Plus this room is so TINY! Good grief, you've worked miracles!
Love this. My own kichen is cozy/den/kitchen. Just seems to make sense, why not be comfy in there? Have found enjoy cooking so much more. Love the bold vibrancy of your design. Mirror: brilliant idea!
