I don’t have a TV, so I rely on the internet for whenever I want to indulge in a cooking show fix. There’s a lot of great stuff out there, which I hope to share with you in the coming weeks. We’ll be starting with two of my favorites from filmmaker Robert Rodriguez: "Puerco Pibil" and "Sin City Breakfast Tacos".
These two 6 minute videos were developed for the DVD versions of his films Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Sin City. Rodriguez’s style is sexy, edgy and playful, in a tough-guy kind of way. He actually manages to give some real instruction among all those crazy camera angles and cool sound effects. You'll learn how to make your own tortillas, for example, or how to grind your own spices. And of course, there’s the set up for his famous (and accurate) comment on cooking: ‘Not knowing how to cook is like not knowing how to...’

Did I miss a question?
I totally love these videos. I am usually driven nuts by "tough guys" turned cooks, but this one is actually pretty easy to watch.
very cool! I remember seeing this awhile back.
There is also a pretty famous one with Christopher Walken roasting a chicken at his folks' place.
I'm practicing my own style of cooking video production. I have a long way to go. I have to figure out how to make the videos shorter.
Here's one on tamales I made recently:
you could actually use the Rodriguez' pork recipe as a filling for tamales.

Oh man, I remember the first time I saw the Sin City breakfast tacos video. That was definitely the intersection of sexy and food.
I couldn't handle his " 'tough guys' turned cooks" personality. I watched a cooking video that was an extra on the Once Upon a Time in Mexico DVD (I think), and I thought it was terribly crass, not at all sexy.
Dana, your posts are not translating well to the RSS feed - specifically the punctuation. Are you writing elsewhere and then pasting? Something's not working.
I had no idea these were out there! Thanks!
I love these videos! I've been meaning to make his Puerco Pibil recipe, except I can't seem to procure pork butt and banana leaves at the same time, only one or the other.
I would love to see the Christopher Walken one.
Looks like this is Christopher Walken video:
