Silkie chickens are an Asian breed noted for their plumage of silky feathers, blue earlobes, five toes, and black skin. They're often raised for show due to their attractive looks, but Asians consider them a culinary delicacy.
The skin of Silkies is black, but the flesh underneath is white. You can often find frozen whole Silkie chickens in Asian groceries. The meat is distinctively gamy and richer in taste than other chickens. It's good in hot pot, soups, stir-fries, and confits.

this definitely falls in the "too cute to eat" category for me. I intend to raise a couple of these guys for their tiny eggs and cuteness someday when I have a yard. :)
omg, omg, omg!
i love this article! thanks for posting. and here i was thinking that only humans came in black ;)
Though this may not be totally rational as I can eat regualr chicken just fine, there is no way I can eat these. They look kind of like furry little puppies.
They make great pets, too!
