When was the last time you had a neighbor over for dinner? Or invited yourself over to their place ... even if you had never met?
Old fashioned hospitality and social media converge in a fun new concept called Neighbor Dining. According to the creator, this could be the cure for urban loneliness, and at the same time a way to literally eat up your energy bill.
Check out the video introducing this ingenious idea under the cut…
Vattenfall is a Swedish power company. The initiative isn't real (yet); it's a proposal from advertising student Luong Lu. But how cool would it be if your local utility did something like this?
Saving money is certainly an incentive, and we love the technology aspect. Even without those features, however, "Neighbor Dining" is something we could all start doing on a personal, small-scale level. What do you think?

definitely a cool idea for people who like their neighbors! i wonder if there would be different types of options for vegetarian-only meals/vegan cooking... things like that? with all kinds of food allergies, it could be tricky, but workable i'm sure. maybe? interesting concept for sure!
That's a pretty neat idea except for the fact that it's connected to Foursquare. I never like posting my location to the internet. It's bad enough that Big Brother always knows where I am because of the GPS on my phone.
This is pretty cool and if my local utility participated I'd do it. However, I wish foursquare would make a filter for homes and not display addresses. I'd feel a lot safer that way.
This is a cool idea, but all I can think about is:
A) What if your neighbor is a terrible cook?
B) The first guy in the video barely washed his leeks and makes me not want to eat at his house...haha
I'm totally fine with not being that close with my neighbours. I'm an introvert. I don't need to know my neighbours that well. Plus my apartment is always a mess.
I think this would be great! I'd love to know more people around me and eat different things. I love to cook and I only really cook for my fiance and I so it would be nice to share.
i love this!!!! i wish they would do it here!
They would need a way to cap the number of guests. I wouldn't mind hosting another person or two, but what if six signed up? Not only would that be expensive for me (buying ingredients) but also we don't have enough places at the table for them to sit and eat.
Choosing which neighbourhood dinner you attend according to what dish is being served seems a bit... wrong.
