Move over, pineapple — there's a new upside-down cake in town. Made with apples and caramel, it's the perfect way to usher in fall.

This dessert is basically like a caramel apple — only better because there's cake involved. You start with a homemade caramel on the stovetop, which you then cook your apple slices in. The apple and caramel go into the bottom of the pan, and then the cake batter is poured on top of it.

The result (when you flip the baked cake over) is a crunchy, caramelized top with a moist, flavorful layer of cake below it.

Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a mug of hot cider, this is the treat you'll be craving all season.
