This summer I've had more invites to get-togethers, picnics, parties than any other. But time has been short, so instead of busting out some labor-intensive side dish, I've turned to a single ingredient with a rather unique bit of styling. A few years ago Martha Stewart shared this "recipe" for a watermelon cake. At the time I sneered at the idea: if I'm going to eat cake, I want real cake, dang it! But Martha makes it work: she takes a single watermelon, removes either end, slices the middle and scoops out the rest to add some dimension to the top. Slice and squeeze some lime for something extra special, and devour! It's a festive look that doesn't require refrigeration, preparation, or quite frankly, even consideration. Score!
