Q: I had some delicious cold pressed coffee down in Portland and was wondering how to go about making it at home! Any tips, stories, or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Editor: Adina, this roundup post on cold-brewed iced coffee is a good place to start, but some of us think this Japanese iced coffee method is the best method of all!

I use my aeropress to make perfect iced coffee. I press it over ice cubes. Mind you, I use a lot of coffee - like 2 1/2 scoops per cup (or more). But its not bitter, just wonderful coffee flavor.
My former boyfriend received this http://www.amazon.com/Filtron-30LD-Deluxe-Coffee-System/dp/B000KEM4KA as a christmas present a few years ago and enjoyed the crap out of it. It was really easy to make and yielded a huge carafe of concentrated, cold-pressed coffee.
per commenter above, i've always wondered why you couldn't just use your french press with cold water, and just let it sit longer. will it not brew enough in that short amount of time?
I use a french press ~ this is the method http://www.injennieskitchen.com/2010/07/coldbrewed-coffee.html

I really like the method used by the Bitten Word guys (mentioned in the roundup), so easy! and no heating water--perfect for the dog days of summer. but you do have to plan ahead.
I just use my french press, though as lazy_lurker says, you end up using at least double the amount of coffee per cup. I fill it the night before using cold water, and then just let it "steep" all night and press in the morning - delicious in the summer!
Another vote for the french press. I've been using the ratios/method suggested by Bittman in my french press with fantastic results. Smooth, delicious coffee every time.

One carafe usually lasts me a week and a half to 2 weeks. A few people in my family have it & love it as well.

wishing i had made more, but that's the coffee junkie talking there!
trying to persuade myself to try iced coffee, it just doesn't seem right!
Did you have it from that place that takes 24 or 36 or 48 hours--some insane amount of time--to make their cold drip coffee? (It was featured on the Food Network's "The Best Thing I've Ever Had" series, whatever it's called. They had a beverage episode, and the first beverage was a cold drip/press coffee in Portland.
