No matter who you're with this Valentine's evening, you probably want a meal that is simple yet a treat — something easy to pull together after work, a meal to make you sink into the enjoyment of a quiet evening at home. Here are some suggestions for you: Foolproof instructions for cooking a perfect steak, and a dish of creamy pasta with lemon and hazelnuts. There are some quick, no-cook appetizers, a boozy cup of mocha, and a fizzy pink cocktail. And dessert, of course — the best brownies we know how to make, and a chocolate mousse to dream over. Oh, and real crème brûlée. If that doesn't get you in a Valentine's mood we don't know what will!
If there was any night to eat at home, Valentine's would be it. Restaurants are packed, in spite of their overpriced and often boring menus (Valentine's is not a night to trot out your most interesting dishes). Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday this year, too — not the best night for eating out. We ask you: isn't it more romantic and pleasurable to stay in, cozy with a glass of wine at your own table? This goes for all of us — folks with a romantic attachment, old or new, to celebrate, as well as those of us planning some indulgent time alone. Or perhaps you're gathering with a little group of friends? These recipes will give pleasure and satisfaction.

Braised Lamb Shanks & Root Vegetable Puree goes to the wrong link. . .
Whoopsie! Fixed. Thanks!
A simple flaming dessert: Southern Comfort Ball
Ingredients: Vanilla Ice Cream, Shredded Coconut, Southern Comfort (Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey).
Take a double scoop of ice cream for each serving (strawberry if you want pink), make it into a ball, roll in coconut. Place coconut balls in freezer (on smooth or wax paper-lined plate) until ready to serve. To serve: In the kitchen put balls in glass dishes, pour Southern Comfort over each ball and light them. Use a tray or platter to carry the flaming desserts. Turn lights down low for your entrance.
Optional: Soak halved strawberries in SC, chill, then add just before flaming.
Easy, romantic and sexy.
@claudette49. Wonderful idea. I've used a melon scooper before to make the ice cream balls and rolled them in toasted coconut before placing them on a tray like you do before freezing. When ready to serve, I place several in each glass and then slightly drizzled with melted chocolate.
I love the idea of flaming them. But using such small balls probably wouldn't work as well. It's kind of a go between, using small balls with the toasted coconut and sauce, or larger scoops that when flamed, will warm the coconut a bit and not melt the ice cream too much. Of course the visual presentation of flaming them sounds awesome and very romantic.
This looks just wonderful idea and is going in my to-make file, but I'm dying to know what restaurant inspired it!
very good receipe!

We did a filet mignon and sauteed shallots and mushrooms in butter. Simple and amazing!
