  • The 2016 Summer Olympics are under way, and as you watch all the incredible athletes around the world you might wonder what fuels them. Endurance athletes consume more than athletes on team sports, and athletes who participate in aesthetic sports (like gymnastics) consume way less than you might think.
  • Meet Gudetama, the cartoon egg that is the embodiment of depression. Introduced a year ago by Sanrio, a Tokyo-based corporation known for inventing cute characters like Hello Kitty. Here's how the depressed egg got so famous, and why this is particular to Japanese culture.
  • There's a growing momentum for "food that breaks the rules" — the macaroni and cheese, or Nutella recipes that you often see on the internet. These food items and recipes go against the "healthy" foods of the internet — the Paleo diets and organic movement. How did this rebellion in the age of food perfection start, and is this food really so "bad?"

  • Apparently there's no coffee in the Olympic Village. Coca-cola has not provided athletes with coffee this year, but instead provided tons of caffeinated Coca-Cola products. This is semi-ironic because Brazil is the third largest coffee producer in the world.
