Q: I've fallen hard for DRY Lavender Soda. It's on the pricey side, but is absolutely wonderful and refreshing. My favourite way to enjoy it is with a splash of Appleton Rum. I'd love to find a recipe that replicates its best qualities — only mildly sweet with a light refreshing lavender flavour. Can you help?

Editor: My recommendation would be to make a lavender-flavored simple syrup and try adding that to sparkling water. Simmer equal parts water and sugar until the sugar dissolves, remove from heat and add in a pinch of dried lavender buds. Let cool, then strain out the buds. You'll probably need to play around a bit until you find a ratio of sugar to lavender that you like — and remember, lavender gets super potent and soapy-tasting very fast, so start with a very small amount and work your way up!
