Great ideas!!! I also find that water and vinegar (equal parts) works like a charm for disinfecting, cleaning windows, etc.
Hot soap and water is completely fine for cutting boards. I have a wood cutting board that I use for meat and veggies (I usually chop veggies first, then meat or otherwise wash the board after cutting meat). The biggest tip I read for buying a cutting board is to make sure to get one that isn't too big to fit in the sink to clean.
how do you keep kitchen sponges from getting moldy? apparatus or caring tips appreciated!
I have a question: how do you clean a rustying burner? When I moved into my rented flat, the burners were already in bad condition, so I applied oil regularly but that didn't help much. Any tips?
Questions: saturate your sponge and cook n microwave for 1.5 minutes. Careful when removing as it will be scalding. but the closest you will getto autoclaving in a home kitchen!
Re Boiled Dry:
During Hurricane Sandy, I was simmering water in several pots on the stove, trying to warm the place up a bit. My husband turned up the burners and boiled several favorite pots dry, including my LeCreuset 7 1/4 qt dutch oven. I emailed LC customer service, admitting that it was probably abuse and not covered by warranty. They graciously said that it was an accident and that for $100, they would replace it with a new one. Of course it's my most used favorite pot so I sent the old pot back with a check and I just received the replacement last week. I thought it was a generous offer and was glad to take it. A new pot costs $300.
Love the Le Creuset story!
