Take a look at this pasta dish from Richa at Hobby and More: It looks pretty good, right? Pasta, broccoli, toasty crumbs... but there's more. There's something very special sprinkled over this basic dish: DIY, homemade Doritos spice mix.
That's right — a spice mix that Richa says reaches that salty-sweet, addictively-good quality of the mysterious mixture that makes Doritos so ridiculously yummy. Her mix includes nutritional yeast, onion and garlic powders, cayenne, and a few more things. She also offers suggestions for recreating Cool Ranch and Cheddar Doritos tastes.

Red-and-Pink-Stripe...

I thought they just tasted like MSG.
This sounds brilliant!
In theory this sounds excellent!
I think it would make things taste cheap and artificial, even nachos - if you want dorito flavored nachos or tacos, just add doritos. And as far as using it in other foods, why in gods name would you want your pasta dinner to taste like Doritos? Maybe for a picky toddler but not me. Cool that she cracked the code, but I can't think of an instance where I'd want to use this.
Pretty cool that she has been able to duplicate the taste of Doritos more healthfully, because I was once told that Doritos contained several different forms of MSG to prevent snackers from eating just one or even a few at one time. However, I'm with MIMEE25...I don't think I'd want my pasta to taste like Doritos either. Might be cool to top homemade tortilla chips with this and have your own Doritos, though.
