It's that time of year again where we all pack into planes, trains, and automobiles to visit family and friends near and far. And if there's one thing we've learned: you can't rely on food in airports, train stations, and truck stops.
We sat down and compiled a list of some of our favorite snack food recipes perfect for holiday travel. Our criteria: easy to pack and carry around, not messy, and delicious, of course. From crackers to granola bars to healthy cookies, we looked for recipes that would also pack a little punch of protein to keep you going until the end of your journey. Safe travels to all!

I will vouch for the graham cracker recipe....sooo yummy. I like them best with raw sugar sprinkled on top (instead of cinnamon sugar).
What timing, I am taking a long train ride. Thank you!!
Planning or Christmas travel now, and have discovered that O'Hare doesn't have much going for it in terms of food options. Thanks for the snack suggestions!
Isn't that picture on the far right from Joy the Baker?
Pretty sure that last photo is Joy the Baker's Bite Sized Baked Brie. http://joythebaker.com/2011/12/bite-sized-baked-brie/
I always enjoy these travel/food posts & have tried many of the suggestions. However, what I'd REALLY like to know is how one manages to navigate past over zealous tsa agents with said snacks. Dh is now traveling frequently for 3 wks at a time. His complaints after his first such trip inspired me to load him up with a few sustainable snacks for his next trip. I spent no small amount of time on this labor of love only to have it ALL confiscated by tsa. I was furious.
A few wks later we flew out to visit the kids. AGAIN my snacks were s.t.o.l.e.n. I was beyond furious this time as a couple were treats for the g-kids. THEN as I settle in my seat, the lady next to me pulls out a tupperware container & proceeds to munch on fresh veggies & dip! All this after my hummus had just been delcared a threat to national security. Dh caught tthe look on my face & put his hand on my arm in an effort to silently calm me down. I managed to withhold my temper tantrum until AFTER we disembarked.
Somebody please give me some advice before you read about me in the news. Do I just have a target on my back or what? I did feel [somewhat] vindicated when I arrived home with a hefty wedge from a cheesemonger in Seattle but that a temporary pacifier.
Every time I drive long hours in the car I bake cut up sweet potatoes! They're sweet, healthy, and very satisfying! Plus you can eat with one hand!
