Now here's a handy tool for Thanksgiving and the other holidays swiftly approaching. We don't know about you, but there never seems to be enough room in our oven on the day itself. There are squash casseroles to be warmed up, stuffing to be crisped, and many more dishes besides. We need more oven space, and this rack might be a major helper.
The rack hooks onto your bottom oven rack to give you more options for cooking and baking; you can warm multiple dishes at once -- even while your other oven racks are removed to make way for the turkey, for instance. It holds up to two extra levels of heavy casserole dishes. But it does fold flat for storage; it can be easily slipped away after Thanksgiving is over.
Now, a once-a-year gadget would hardly be worth our interest, but this caught us because it seems like it would also serve as an ordinary cooling rack. It looks like it can stand up on its own, whether it is inside an oven or not. A cooling rack is very useful year-round for cookies, cakes, bread, and pies. A cooling rack that does double duty inside your oven at holiday times - well, that's pretty nice too.

When I replaced the Montgomery Ward's stove that came with the house, I chose this one. It has a super huge capacity, 5 burners, and...what they call "Create-a-space (tm) half rack." I have two racks, and one of them has a removable side. So you put that one in the upper/middle, remove the side, then put your turkey in, and it fits, and you still have 2 racks on the other side to fit other goodies.
I have not really appreciated it yet, as I live alone and the only time I had Thanksgiving here, my sister and her husband went to her husband's family's house. So I just made turkey lasagna for my parents and I. Someday, I hope that whoever buys my house appreciates it, though.
I saw this in a catalogue, in my head this totally falls apart within the oven- 10 minutes before dinner and I have sweet potatoes in my green beans. I have an oversized toaster oven, warming drawer in the oven, and a couple of chaffing dishes I put into use if I need the space.
Don't fall for it!! I bought this several years ago and had to return it because I couldn't fit a turkey next to it in my oven (and I know my oven is the standard size!). Sigh. It would have been nice.
Oh my goodness, that's tragic. I want so much for this rack to work! It would be genius if it did.
The turkey pan doesn't fit beside it in a standard oven? That is so good to know. Thank you for saving me the money!
