Q: My boyfriend was assaulted and badly injured while biking to work today. He's doing well, but eating dinner tonight proved to be a challenge. He ended up having some store-bought soup that he wasn't thrilled about. Do you have any suggestions for delicious recipes that can be consumed through a straw?

That's just awful. Hope your boyfriend recovers quickly.
Pretty much any soup can be pureed, so even a stew can be eaten through a straw, although you might need to add a little extra stock to thin it down. Smoothies would also work. Good luck!
This soup is a favourite in our household for post-wisdom-tooth-extraction-meals:
Moosewood Persian Split Pea and Barley Stew (you can blend it for easier consumption)

Hope he's on the mend!
If he's a seafood eater, I love this rustic shrimp soup! It's nice to have a little protein in a pureed soup, and the rice makes it so satisfying!

I had an oral surgery a few years ago and could barely talk and could not chew at all. All the soups were driving me crazy so I went to the local Indian take away and asked for Chicken Tikka Masala WITHOUT the chicken - they looked at me funny but they gave it to me. Most of the places I have been that offer this dish have it floating in sauce so it should be no problem to get it without the meat. The sauce is delicious rich and creamy - and its a bit thicker than soup. It was a nice change from the 3 meals of soup every day.
Hope he recovers soon!
* (Blenders) peanut butter shakes
* Mashed potatoes (possibly with gravy)
* Pumpkin puree
I highly recommend the cookbook, "Blend It" http://amzn.com/1588162672
Recently I have jaw surgery and couldn't eat solid food for six weeks. This got me through the first 2-3 weeks until I could eat soups, eggs, etc.
My brother went through extensive oral surgery in high school and had his jaw wired shut for three months. He pretty much lived off of milkshakes, because he couldn't get over the texture of other pureed things we tried...basically, if it was a protein, he didn't want it. (Don't worry - he's made up for it by being pretty much all meat, all the time since then. <eyeroll>)
He liked vegetable based soups (potato in particular) and that was about it - and the milkshakes of course!
Sorry about this incident - hope he mends quickly!
My friend injured her jaw a few years back, and started a blog about her various cooking/ blending attempts - http://jawswiredshut.tumblr.com/
Fruit smoothies will help keep his nutrition up. Vegetable and squash soups are really good. Use the blender to get the smoothest consistency and he won't have to deal with bits stuck in his teeth. Hope he has a quick recovery!
Don't forget juicing. Almost any raw fruit or vegetable can be juiced. While smoothies and soups are great for fiber, juice is also a tasty way to get nutrients.
You can make home made yogurt. Once it's ready, turn it into a delicious tzatziki sauce.
Cook some vegetables and meat and use some of the cooking water and tzatziki sauce to puree them.
If he's a vegetarian, you can make a variety of delicious soups using pulses with cury spices if he likes strong flavours. Add some of the cooking water and yogurt to puree.
I used to make "milkshakes" for my children's breakfasts when they were young. I used yogurt (or frozen yogurt), fruits, frozen or not, any type of milk, and a raw egg for protein. I sweetened them with a little honey or maple syrup. I added ice cubes if I didn't use other frozen ingredients.
