Q: I've been on a quest to perfect homemade granola bars, and I'm getting there, but still haven't found the magic touch. First, I was using Ina Garten and Alton Brown's recipes, which tasted great but never held together (I ended up with straight granola rather than granola bars).
Then I discovered brown rice syrup and started using that (and stopped using butter, which I was told would impede the bars from holding together). But I'm not sure that I love the flavor of the brown rice syrup. Most recently I added more honey than normal, which helped a little, but I don't want to end up adding so much sugar that they are no better than the store-bought kind.
Help! Recipes and suggestions needed!
