Q: I am making homemade tonic syrup (of the gin and tonic variety) to gift to family and friends this year. I have been scouring the internet for some inexpensive bottles (about 150-250 ml in size) in which to gift the tonic. I can't find anything.
I would love to find pop-top bottles like Ikea's SLOM bottle, but in a smaller size.
Does anybody know where I can locate such bottles? Added twist: shipping available to Canada (i.e., no Amazon.com)

I don't know if they ship to Canada, but I've bought various types of bottles from Specialty Bottle and have been happy with their service and even happier with their prices. These look like they would work: http://www.specialtybottle.com/swingtopbottlesmi.aspx
Empem, you are my hero! They ship to Canada! They are exactly what I have been scouring the internet for weeks!
Thank you. If anyone knows of Canada-based companies who sell these bottles, I would be very appreciative. Import duties are a pain.
Yay! So happy! I know your pain - about a year and a half ago, I did a big spice storage overhaul, and it took me a long time to find the perfect bottles. Good luck with the tonic!!
I second Specialty Bottle - great selection, replaced broken caps w/o question... good experience.
We use SKS bottle for our home business (www.thisandthatjam.com) because shipping costs suck and once you reach the $300 minimum it all ships for free (not that you'd spend that much on bottles for little gifts, but you know...) Their customer service is super friendly too.
Check beer/winemaking supply stores in your area. We also save Fisher and Grolsch beer bottles, soak the labels, and run through dishwasher. Our current debate involves whether or not to use Mason jars for homemade Kahlua and Irish cream...
Ditto on Specialty Bottle - for glass, the shipping will be more expensive than tin (eg, for tea, etc) - but I've ordered from them several times and always been pleased.
I've been hunting for cheap swingtop bottles for our homemade cider (15 gallons and counting) and found the Clip N' Clamp Swing top at Bottless.net. They turn any bottle with the right size neck into a swingtop. I'm still anxiously awaiting their arrival so I can't tell how well they work yet. Unfortunately they only sell them by the case so I may end up selling the extras on ebay.
Try The Container Store: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/giftWrapWonderland/homemadeGiftIdeas/bottlesCruets?N=80032&rpp=10000 They do ship to Canada.
Specialty Bottle is definitely one of my favorites.
Have you tried looking on Amazon.com's Canadian web site? http://www.amazon.ca/
I second The Container Store. Made some liqueur this season, and just today bought this 1-L hermetic bottle for $4.99 http://www.containerstore.com/shop/giftWrapWonderland/homemadeGiftIdeas/bottlesCruets?productId=10028817&N=80032
Perfect.
Mountain Rose Herbs has a great selection of glass bottles in all shapes and sizes!
Container & packaging supply. Great variety. I just ordered chapstick and deodorant tubes for my next diy quest, and glass bottles with spray fittings for homemade cleaners
I found some at a dollar store a few years ago when I gifted homemade vanilla extract as part of christmas baskets I had made up... Maybe one day amazon.com will ship to Canada... (we can only dream!)
Ah, MCW2009, if only amazon.ca had amazon.com's selection.
Thanks everyone! With regards to SpecialtyBottle, are the prices for a dozen bottles? Like, $3.04 for a dozen 250ml swing-top bottles?! Prices really are lower in the US.
Unfortunately, no. They're giving you the pricing per bottle if you order within that range. (That is, if you order 100 bottles, it'll cot $3.04 per bottle; if you order 200 bottles, it'll cost $2.24 per bottle; if you order 1000 bottles, it'll cost $1.82 per bottle.)
I agree that it's kind of confusing that they indicate the case size with the pricing, but you can order exactly as many as you need without worrying about how many come in a case.
That makes more sense. I was expecting to pay about that price per bottle.
Thanks!
i found my glass bottles for my vanilla extract at uline.ca, very affordable shipping.
I'm in Canada and order from amazon.com all the time, just depends on the vendor.
Unfortunately Amazon.ca has a very limited and expensive selection of non-book items.
It also depends on the shipping cost; often it is so high, there is no point in having it sent to Canada... However, most Canadians live a short drive from the U.S. border; we are less than an hour away from the closest U.S. town, and have stuff shipped to the local UPS store (they charge $5 per package to hold it). It's waaaaaay cheaper than paying the higher shipping costs.
Hrmm uline.ca is the most promising. Too bad they don't have the swing-tops. I lust for the ones on specialtybottle, but shipping nearly doubles the cost of the bottles.
I'm genuinely puzzled that it's so difficult to get decent bottles online from a Canadian business. I sense a business opportunity...
another endorsement for specialty bottle! have been using their services for a few years now specifically for x-mas gift-giving (limoncello, liqueurs, infused oils...) and they are GREAT.
Unless you need large quantities, I have good luck at Homegoods. Love that Store!
I gave some tonic syrup as a birthday gift a few months ago, and I just packed it up in a ball jar with some ribbon on top. That's also how I keep mine. I don't have trouble pouring it to measure, and the jars are easy to find in stores and online.
