Forget decorating the house - after seeing these Halloween-inspired bento box lunches we just want to decorate our food for this weekend's festivities! These bentos are so colorfully spook-tacular that we'd be hard-pressed to mess them up by eating them:
What a neat way to incorporate some bright Halloween fun into food without going overboard with sweets! These lunches are full of healthful ingredients like purple cauliflower, "carved jack-o-lanterns" of mini bell peppers, and nori "spider webs". See more at Gamene's Flickr page.

I love the paper/cloth used in the ghost rice bento shot. Where did you get that?
I wish I understood bento boxes but, admittedly, I just don't get it. Sure the ones highlighted look pretty but a small mound of rice and a mouthful of vegetables isn't a meal.
It is for Asian people, vegans, vegetarians and plenty of non-white Americans.
Lunch doesn't have to include big slabs of meat or sugary things to be satisfying and tasty. You also don't need to give your child enormous portions for it to be filling and nutritious either.
Ha slowdown, no I fully understand who its for and the intention (and thats silly to assume its not for most "non-white americans." I just think about half these images, you'd be hard pressed to get enough calories and overall nutrition from even as a snack. A spoonful of rice, 2 cut up green beans, a few sprigs of parsley and a habanero pepper is hardly a meal or close to well balanced. Most people would find just a plain old apple more filling and satifying than an overly prepped little pile of chopped up food.
jmorri26 clearly you've never tried eating such a meal or you wouldk now it's very filling and leaves you with plenty of energy!
Actually mdanger, I have, but a traditional bento box usually follows guidelines to give balanced nutrition (4 parts starch/rice, 3 parts protein, 2 parts vegetable and one small part sweet) yet I'm finding most times now I see people post bentos its to show off how cutsy they can look and, while I know that style of them is popular, they just end up being a tiny pile of overhandled veggies. That may be filling and leave you with energy (if you're vegan/vegetarian, by all means), but I'll stick to more balanced nutrition for me and my family. That's just my personal thoughts on it though.
I don't know what all the fuss is about, i personally love eating bentos, and these look delicious for a light lunch! and super cute to boot! But I suppose if you are the kind of person that really likes a large lunch this would not be a good choice for you.
They are cute but what one eats for lunch also depends on what one does during the day. My husband is a surveyor and he quite often hauls 120 pounds of equipment and granite boundstones through the woods, sometimes hip deep in snow. ( no one shovels the woods, alas. ) If I were to give him a bento box for lunch he would probably eat it box and all then come home to ask why I no longer loved him.
