Apparently if you come to my house for a party, I'm bound and determined to send you home with miniature drinks. Remember those hot apple cider shots? Well this time around it's hot chocolate... in an ornament. Fill them up and drink straight from it, because this ornament isn't for decoration, it's for deliciousness.
Some of the best ideas for small favors or handmade gifts come from wedding blogs and today's idea is no different. We checked in over at Project Wedding where we found these cute little hot cocoa ornaments.
They're intended to be filled with hot water, stirred and drank straight from the glass ball. Does that make you a little nervous? The actual drinking part doesn't, but the glass ball not shattering when I pour hot water in it might.
If drinking is too much for you, it's still a super cute way to give the gift of tasty hot chocolate in individual serving sizes with some serious presentation. You can use extra fancy chocolate or mints, but because of the small amount going in each one (which could then be poured into a mug at home), you won't break the bank. What do you think of the idea?

Floral Drink Dispen...

I get it...It's cute... However I can't pretend that the idea of pouring boiling water into that tiny hole of a thin glass ornament and then having to hold that while sipping, doesn't freak me out a bit.
Hey throw some silica crystals in there and keep them as ornaments! Cute, but Ill keep my actual drinks in mugs or fancy ware.
These are very pretty but I can't help but think that they are majorly dangerous. 1 - drinking a hot beverage out of that looks like a recipe for danger, 2 - I'm sure those things are not tested to be safe for consumption (ie: there are probably chemicals, etc. in them that can either make you sick in the short term or give you cancer in the long run) and 3 - the risk of drinking tiny shards of glass seems quite high.
There is nothing smart about this idea. It has emergency room visit written all over it. Those ornaments are made from very thin glass, not heat tempered. Have you ever seen one shatter? You find shards forever. Plus, holding a hot drink in something with no handle...just plain dumb.
This is a horrible idea if the intended result is for someone to actually drink this. They recommend using everyday clear glass ornaments you get at any craft store. WTF, use common sense people. This is exactly why I could never take wedding websites seriously.
Also, these won't look pretty for very long, cocoa powder coats everything it touches, so after shuffling these around in a box or car a few times they will look like pretty little glass balls with very lumpy dirt inside.
ornaments are not made from thick glass.. this is dangerous.. hot boiling water hitting thin glass can shatter it..
Cute - as an ornament. I've been on an ornament decorating kick lately, and every ornament seems to have thin glass strings in the opening (I got a nasty glass splinter on my first, and have been VERY careful since). I would not put my mouth near that opening! And I wouldn't trust there wouldn't be glass pieces inside.
Oh, for heaven's sake...just give me a MUG.
I hate these "who can look like the biggest idiot trying to sip an ounce of cocoa out of an ornament" contest/posts.
This is cute. If you want to spend a bunch of time trying to get cocoa mix in that tiny neck, more power to you. But suggesting that you drink hot liquid out of it? Unsafe, as the other commenters mentioned...and annoying to boot.
I agree with the OMG CUTE factor and also the OMG DANGER factor, and propose fancy, iced cocktails in this form instead.
Cute as an ornament, but I doubt they are safe for food use. And, yeah, pouring hot water in there would make me super nervous even if they were. But if someone wanted to put more of a DIY effort into it, I bet you could buy some small, round glass jars and turn it into an ornament-looking thing.
It doesn't seem safe to even drink cold liquids out of these ornaments. Are you going to wash them first? The insides could be filled with dirt, dust, and chemicals. Terrible idea.
Cute as an ornament but using it for drinks, even if withstands the heat, is naive..
