Q: I want to have a dinner party before seeing The Hunger Games when it opens on March 23rd. Do you (or any of your readers) have some good menu suggestions that are reminiscent of the books?

Editor: Jan, a great place to start would be Fictional Food — check out the archive of Hunger Games food here:

Readers, what else would you suggest?

Definitely need some meat on a stick... You could do it chicken satay style but call it squirrel or something. :) maybe something with poison berries.
My first thought was yummy breads in honor of Peeta's family's profession (and that he used to leave it for Katniss).
Fictional food was going to be my suggestion, but this also ran in the Cleveland news paper a few days ago: Hunger Games Inspired Food
Little Bread Boys? "Lamb" stew with Dried Plums, That Frilly Orange Juice they give Katniss, A roast sucking pig. There are some "District 12 grain ration" biscuits that are supposed to be good Goose/Chicken "Groosling" Greasy Sae's Mystery meat Stew.
I'm so Jealous, Everyone I know who is going is just hitting the bar first.
If you also want to go nuts, there is the Hunger Games Cookbook:

I made two dishes for my book club. The first was a simple cheese plate of herbed goat cheese on basil leaves, and the second was a take on the lamb stew - rosemary lamb skewers with a dried plum chutney. There is more info and the recipe here - http://feedingmysunshine.com/tag/hunger-games/
goat cheese in honor of her little sister!
We had a little drunken book club the other night including Pita bread, hummous, and, um, "Avox" (hyrdox) cookies....
Since famine features prominently I'd make it a 'bring food or a check for the local food bank' a part of my theme. Also, since nitlock berries are featured in the story as having poisonous juices, I'd have some sort of berry dish - perhaps a berry tart.
That was odd... NIGHTLOCK.
Lamb Stew
don't forget mint tea and dandelion salad!
timw got to it before me– The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook. I've heard pretty good things about it, but I'm not quite obsessed enough to check it out.
Ha! My local paper threw a recipe contest inspired by the book. Follow the link to find the recipes. http://www.vancouversun.com/life/Hunger+Games+inspired+feast/6332102/story.html
Very adorable vlog "Feast of Fiction" has a couple Hunger Games recipes, including Peeta's bread and a kind of Greek-style take on the lamb stew: http://www.youtube.com/user/feastoffiction?feature=watch
A lamb stew with stone fruit...perhaps more like a tagine?
You should only have one plate of food and make your guests battle for it.

FELTTIPJR - you made me laugh out loud.
Quail or Cornish game hens with a berry reduction sauce
A giant display of dessers
Isn't hot chocolate a big deal? Maybe Cups of Mexican hot chocolate
Oh Blandwagon, you had me with that other post on the girl's room but now you're the wet blanket.
OP can we be friends? I need more childlike fun in my life.
