Q: I'm throwing a Cinco de Mayo BBQ and making a white sangria with apples, pears and kumquats. I was thinking about mixing a prosecco with a medium-bodied inexpensive white (chablis? or something unoaked), but I'm not sure what my best options would be. I'd love to hear what other readers have tried and liked!

As crazy as it sounds, I've had the best success with a Sav Blanc and a splash of club soda. It lets the fruit sing!
Had a Reisling w/peaches and Cointreau sangria at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina. Fabulous.
For Sangria, I'd opt for vinho verde.
Second the sav blanc, specifically from a jug. More expensive wines actually taste worse in that kind of sangria. And you are right - nothing oaked.
I had a Gewürztraminer from TJ's the other night and thought it would make a delicious sangria.
I was going to say Vinho Verde too, or a great Gewurtztraminer (or Riesling - try some from the Finger Lakes in NY!).
In Barcelona they make it with cava, it was amazing
I always mix 2 of the Yellow Tail whites for my white sangria (and mix everything up in a growler): pinot grigio and the chadonnay. Since I like to add a bit of kirsch or brandy to mine, too, they blend well with that as well as fruit. Delicious!
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what wine she uses, but a friend of mine makes white sangria with some seltzer water in it (as opposed to adding bubbles with sparkling wine). It helps balance out the sweetness of the fruit.
Bota Box Pinot Grigio with fresh mango and apple. Top with frozen blue berries and let the color seep down. Top with soda water.
Seriously, I think Charles Shaw ("two buck Chuck" here in CA) makes pretty fantastic Sangria. (I like the sauv blanc best, but the pinot grigio works well too.) It's such a basic wine that it allows the other flavors - the fruit, the other liquor you add, etc. - shine. It's not a wine I would normally drink on its own (although it definitely works in a pinch), but it's pretty much my standby for cooking and wine cocktails (like sangria). Whole Foods has a cheap option too ($3-4/bottle), and that also works pretty well.
While I realize this is not a Sangria per se, I've received some rave reviews from my friends for my mix of 1 part Fresca (soda) to 2 parts Skinny Girl White Peach Margarita, which has a nice and surprisingly accurate Peach flavor.
