Q: Next week I'll be in Vegas for a friend's whirlwind wedding and I want to pack some snacks to stay satiated between meals. I know how expensive things can get on the strip, so it'd be nice to have healthy snacks or dishes (that probably don't need refrigeration) to munch on.

Editor: Kat, I've been a big fan of individually-sized packets of almond butter lately; they pack well and they're very satisfying. Also think about roasted chickpeas and a couple of oranges.
Readers, what else would you suggest?

Heidi over at 101Cookbooks has a few great posts about eating while traveling. You might start here. Safe and happy travels!
Mixed nuts and fruit that doesn't need to be refridgerated is my go-to for portable, healthy snacks. Super convenient, and it's real food...can't beat that!
Spiced nuts & seeds are pretty delicious. http://www.wholeliving.com/135913/power-snacks-healthy-mini-meals-all-day-energy#/25152
Pick up some avocadoes while you're there to snack on.
Go to Trader Joe's and look in the nut aisle or cereal aisle and pick up some freeze dried fruits. I love the crunchy strawberry slices and my husband is addicted to the mango. They also have delicious plantain chips that taste like potato chips to me.
Also, simple things like nuts and fruits are great. And, I second the avocados. Simply half it and sprinkle some salt and pepper on it before eating. So simple, so delicious!
You could also pick up some healthy, air popped popcorn. I saw some at Trader Joe's yesterday. Low-cal, mindless-munching-while-driving-food.
I generally pack oatmeal packets and granola bars when traveling. Beef jerkey is a easy to pack snack too. If you are driving, throw in a six-pack of water.
Tell the hotel you need a refrigerator in your room for medication. Normally they won't charge you for it. I am traveling to Vegas for work in 2 weeks and I am a vegetarian (which is a NIGHTMARE in Vegas) I am bringing nuts, dried fruits and other dry good snacks. There is a Whole Foods pretty close to the strip, I plan on taking a cab over and getting some yogurts, hummus and cut vegetables for lunches so I can skip the super gross buffets and subway runs that happen onsite.
Shutterbean just posted a quick recipe for Roasted Edamame w/Cranberries that looks delicious!

When I go to Vegas I hit the Trader Joe's for my healthy snacks there and for the plane ride home.
Thanks so much for your help, guys!
