Dear The Kitchen,
I'm finally planning to replace my college starter dinnerware set with something more sophisticated. I am hoping to find dishes that have a cool or pretty design, but nothing so busy that you can't find your food. I'm open to both modern and retro themes, but the dishes have to be round. I never got onto the square-plate bus.
Unfortunately, my budget isn't much bigger than it was in college. Anyone got any ideas where I should start looking? Thanks!

Dear Liz,
Without knowing exactly your budget, I'd steer you to the Crate & Barrel Outlet. There are a few dinnerware deals to be had here.
Here's a bright Fiestaware-inspired series called Citron. Dinner plates are $3.95. For an all-white look, the Café (16 pieces, $39.95) series might work.
You can always try Ikea if you're willing to brave the stores. They have a 60-piece Startbox for $79.99.
We'll turn this over to the Apartment Therapist and see if he can chime in with any finds.
