Good Question: A Fish Market in Greenpoint, Brooklyn?

Good Question: A Fish Market in Greenpoint, Brooklyn?

Dear Kitchen,

Are there any fish markets in Greenpoint? I moved here in December and am a bit baffled.

It seems like the neighborhood that has pretty much everything else, might actually not sell fish. Is this possible?

We reached out to Kitchen reader J.R. J.R. lives in Greenpoint and she's an excellent fish cook.

Unfortunately she didn't have great news. J.R. told us the only fish store that she knew of in Greenpoint has a dreamy name, but sells disgusting fish. "It was really quite awful," J.R. said. Sigh.

She told us that she picked up some great fish at the McCarren Park Greenmarket last summer, but she wasn't sure if they are there this year. Also, Yelp suggests Metropolitan Fish Market in somewhat-near-by Williamsburg. Readers, anyone know if there's a fish seller at the McCarren market this summer? Any other fish sources?

We've had some readers in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, looking for a fish market too. We sent them to the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket and suggested a few fish markets in Park Slope.

Any other neighborhood fish market suggestions?

Thanks for this question, Gaia, and thanks for your help, J.R.
