When the mornings start to get chilly, all I want before I dash out to work is a bite of something warm and a cup of tea in my hand. This breakfast recipe gives me just that, and it's gluten-free to boot!
I'm never one for traditional breakfast food during traditional breakfast hours. I tend to just grab whatever fits in my pocket for my morning commute. But I'm always looking for ways to keep the sugar down and my tummy full. This breakfast pie (two of the best words ever) looks like just the thing.
Bob and Carlene over at BS In The Kitchen include flax, oats, pumpkin, apples and (get this!) no processed sugar at all! It looks like a great start to a great day. Want to see how it's made?

I absolutely love oats but my GF hubby is intolerant of them. I read that a lot of people who cannot digest gluten also have trouble digesting oats. Does anyone have any information or experience with this?
hey MsD - I just read something really cool about Bob's Red Mill today: he gave control of the company to its employees! He's divesting now and creating an employee stock ownership plan, which is pretty alright by me! http://www.classwarfareexists.com/owner-of-bobs-red-mill-natural-foods-gives-his-company-to-his-209-employees/#axzz2C7ul4GqF
This looks awesome :) We're all about oats for breakfast this morning (often in the slow cooker), so this will give us a new twist.
MsD-
For us, it's definitely a separate allergy than gluten. Even GF oats make him sick. People that have sensitive tummies are often sensitive to more than one thing. Gluten, dairy, oats, etc...
DesperatelyKneaded.
Oats can be decieving to people who have gluten problems, even GF ones your body can mistake as gluten. They recommend that GF people remove them from their diet for 6 months to a year, when they first go GF.
I had problems with GF oats, I removed them for 4 months, then I could take it no longer and retried and didn't have any problems with them! I don't know how long he has been GF for, but he might be able to stay away for 6 months to a year and then have success with them.
I made this tonight and while it looked great and smelled wonderful, it really needed sweetness. Without the addition of something sweet it is not edible. This batch went straight to the trash.
I agree with JustShel - I made this recipe this morning and found it not sweet enough. I ended up adding a splash of milk and a little bit of maple syrup to each serving and it was a lot better. I love this concept for breakfast, though!
