We've seen glass-front drawers in kitchens before. So handy for remembering what's where. And it offers the opportunity to display things in drawers instead of reserving that honor for glass-fronted cabinet doors. But what about entire drawers made of glass?
In this home from Period Living, we see bin-like pullouts made of glass and built into the kitchen island. Inside you could store bulk foods like beans and grains. Love this look and we're now wondering where drawers like this can be found.
The pic above is from Swedish kitchen maker Kvänum, but their website is down right now so we're not sure on the details. Anyone know of other sources for cool glass bins/drawers like these?

They're from Ikea, or at least the ones from the top are.
This household obviously doesn't have young children. Can't you just see a little one wreaking havoc - cereal, sugar, flour, broken glass all over the floor? That was my first thought when I saw that picture. Now, those drawers up at adult height would actually be a great idea!
I used to have a set of the ones in the top photo from Ikea. I had it mounted under an upper cabinet and it was great for storing dried beans and such.
Do they have lids for an airtight seal or is everything just exposed?
No its not airtight. I wanted to love these at ikea but talked myself out of them when just picking it up I almost dropped a few of the glass inserts. Glass looks nice but plastic would be much more practical I think.
Also, the ikea ones don't hold much. I couldn't figure out what I had it that small a quantity to use them for. You'd be hard pressed to get a bags worth of dried beans in one from the size.
Well, it could be extra storage. It's not a rule that you have to keep ALL your bulk items in one container. Maybe you keep a few days worth at a time in these glass drawers so that it's at arm's reach, but keep you the rest of your bulk itms stored in airtight containers in your pantry.
Something like rice, for instance, would be fine for a few days in this sort of storage. I think it would be beneficial for someone like me to have the items in plain sight so I remember to use them!
I, agree, that those homes with children would not benefit from this solution, but doesn't negate it's beauty!
Are there stops at the back of these glass drawers? I'd be worried about pulling harder on them because they seem heavier and then having some mishap.
Also, I think I would be constantly bumping into those protruding handles on the top pic. The second image has the drawers under a lip that would prevent that at least.
@kate78 -- I couldn't agree more! That was also my first thought. The cereal in my house is in a closed container inside the pantry and I still have to pick up the occasional mess my 1- and 3-year old make...
At The Container Store there was a display with kitchen cabinet and drawer fronts that looked like glass, but it was lucite (or something similar). I really liked the look of it. But all glass seems dangerous.
I have the Ikea drawers and love them! I use one set for dry goods such as beans, rice and pasta. I bring out the extra one when I have guests and I fill it with colourful candy.
pretty but not for someone as accidnet and prone to slicing my hands open...
I would worry about bugs, odors, moisture, spills finding their way inside.
What if you break a glass insert 10 years from now and you can't find a replacement?
In Germany they're called 'Glasschütten'
These were standard built-ins in kitchen cupboards in the 50s. They were made from very heavy glass, came in different sizes and were inside the cupboard.
I love the old originals like these:
