New parents always appreciate the gift of homemade meals, but here's an idea for a gift that keeps on giving: a collection of your best slow cooker recipes and a new slow cooker, if you know your friends don't have one.
This idea comes from Anna of the blog Clementine's Produce and Provisions, via Dinner: A Love Story. When friends or family members have a baby, she gives them a booklet of her ten best slow cooker recipes, along with a slow cooker if she knows they don't own one. If they live in town, she also includes a couple frozen homemade meals.
As Anna says on her blog, "I love my dutch oven and braising, but when I was a new mom, being able to throw dinner in the crockpot in the morning was a godsend around 5pm later that day." If you want to get a little fancier, you could even make a few recipe booklets using a service like Blurb and have them at the ready for expecting friends or family members.

Straw Mat from The ...

Last Christmas I gave my parents little homemade bags of the dry ingredients for my favorite slow cooker recipes. I included a copy of the recipe (with my notes about how well it freezes, how to store, etc.) all the canned goods, spices, etc. that were required. All they had to do was buy whatever meat when into the mix. Now they are hooked on Cheater Pulled Pork!
What's the dish in the photo above? I've been trying to find it - and maybe I'm crazy - but I can't!
I gave my brother and sister in law a crock pot with a timer, a book of easy recipes, and two frozen, crock pot ready meals last Christmas. Their baby was born five days later.
My favorite crockpot chicken: Chicken breasts on the bone, Juice of 2 lemons, and Italian salad dressing powder. Dump in a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours. Made it last night with roasted Brussles sprouts. Delish!
