Market season is in full swing, and our market bags have been getting a workout every week, toting back fresh produce and baby plants for the garden. We have been rather wanting a market basket, which would protect fragile things like cherries, eggs, and seedlings, so we were really taken with these Fair Trade baskets from Ghana.
Baskets of Africa is a shop that focuses on African basket weavers and their work. They are members of the Fair Trader Federation, and they work with local cooperatives and weavers. They carry baskets from many different countries: Kenya, South Africa, Swaziland. We especially like these colorful market baskets from Ghana, which are beautiful and functional too.

Elizabeth Apron fro...

I purchased one of these at Whole Foods. I love it! It comes with me to the local farmer's market, holds fruit and vegetables at home and doubles as a cat bed when not occupied by produce.
I love mine, but I wish I'd gotten the one on the top right rather than top left. It's a little unwieldy at times.
My kids each have their own small version and I have two just the ones on the left (top and bottom) myself. I also buy these for gifts constantly. We love our market baskets!
I have one... but the handle is broken so it now sits by my bed and holds books. be careful not to overload it...
I have a bunch of them (at least 5), and I use them in a variety of capacities every day. Shopping, storage, visiting, laundry...everything..
They. are. awesome (but make sure you try them on for carrying comfort!)
I just got an oval one and it's perfect. Just what I was looking for and what a great social mission.
Super comfortable handle and great shape for the back of my bike on market days!
I would love to add to the collection.
