Trend: Gas on glass stovetops
Where We Saw It Electrolux, KitchenAid/Whirlpool, Franke, Smeg
These stovetops were front and center all week at EuroCucina: All the easy cleanup of a glass surface, but the power of a gas stove. These sleek, beautiful, gas on glass cooktops we saw this week combine beauty and functionality in a serious way. I'm curious to know how the glass holds up to dropped pans and knives; does it chip or scratch over time?

Floral Drink Dispen...

I have had a Miele black glass and gas cooktop for about 10 years in a kitchen getting lots of use with multiple cooks. Over that time I have noticed that the gas hubs rust. The glass top has been chipped at one corner by contacts with a pot and has a small shattered spot midway down one side (glued back together with superglue) due to a dropped (full) canning jar.
NOT EASY CLEAN UP AT ALL...
Always greasy i have a BOSH one since at least 5 years now....
you need to buy a special cleaner if not you cant get the smudges off....
and around the burner it gets all white!!....
Hasnt a chip nor a crack yet... we are carful!
My folks have had one of these for at least 15 years but I can't for the life of me remember the brand, and the house has since been sold. Anyway, no chips or scratches on the glass. Cleanup was easy except that, like most glass, you have to use the right product or else you see streaks. Moms never had a streak, and she didn't see so well, so one vote for easy cleanup here.
I've had glasstop for 5 years now. No chips or cracks but I am careful not to store heavy canned food right above the stove. But boy is it a PAIN to clean! Even water stains from boiling over the pot have to be scrubbed off. I've tried several cleaners and scrubs and the best one seems to be the Scrunge pad specifically for glasstop. And event then, my husband does a better job cleaning because you really need that elbow grease! I'd be weary buying glass a second time.
We had a gas on glass for a while... that is until dad dropped a ramekin on the corner and created a crack.. that became a giant shatter when heated.
When we moved into our house 16 years ago we inherited a Neff gas glass-topped stove from the previous owners. It wasn't as good-looking as these black ones, but was very easy to clean and hardwearing.
I have the Electrolux Icon range, and it is gas with a glass top. Cleaning is actually really easy, just wipe with a wet, slightly soapy cloth, and dry with a microfiber (Norwex in particular). Works Fab!
I almost bought one but decided against it due to the cleaning issue as well as my fear of breaking it. I have two boys and a husband and I was afraid it wouldn't survive in my house.
