We thought this was a cute idea: reusing old wooden spoons to label the rows in your garden. It's directed toward children, but we think it could be fun for adults, too.

This idea is brought to us by Little Green Fingers, a site dedicated to getting little ones involved and interested in gardening.
Simply write each of your garden's contents on the head of a wooden spoon. Stick the handle side in the soil and - voila! - you have quaint labels made of spoons that might not otherwise see much use (especially if you have an overabundance of wooden spoons at home).

Those do not look like *my* used spoons! They look brand-new! Cute idea, but a tad expensive?
Those do look like brand new spoons. You can also use items found in the plastic recycling bin for labels and reuse old clothing hangers to create stakes. Perhaps it wouldn't be as "cute" though.
When I consider a spoon "used," it is split, splintered, and stained. Burn marks are optional.
Idea is cute, but don't gardens involve sun and water, both of which are hard on wood?
yeah, these are definitely new (and it also like the writing is burned on, which would be nicer than writing). however, you can find wood spoons quite cheap, and you could easily finish them so they'd take the weather better and could be used for years. might be worth it if you like keeping an attractive, abundant garden.
I saw the picture before reading the title, I thought this was about making sure that wooden spoons only touched one thing at a time.
