There's a no-nonsense attitude these Oscar the Grouch trash cans can bring to a kitchen. Just check out that example above. What a fancy kitchen! But that trash can brings things back down to earth. If you'd like the same for your kitchen, check out some options after the jump:
Since all of these are lidded, they are great for keeping in the odors of kitchen waste:
- vintage galvanized garbage can, $52 from Lackluster Co on Etsy
- Behrens 31-Gallon Trash Can with Lid, $40 at Amazon (We've also spotted these at Home Depot).
- 30-Gallon Galvanized Trash Can, $20 at Aubuchon Hardware
- Witt Industries Pail and Lid, $38 at Amazon

that trashcan is wicker...
Thanks, rb....I was staring at the photo thinking "Have I lost my concept of the English language? Since when is wicker galvanized?"
So long as I'm not the only crazy one here.....
haha yes, yes it is.
So glad I'm not the only one who thought this!
Haha, I was staring at that picture thinking, well it might be galvanized, but it looks like it's woven wire--not exactly the 'down to Earth' statement the article meant to invoke.
that being said, it is a lovely kitchen. :)
Ha, yes. Wicker. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that!
AT is messin' with our minds....
I was confused, too.
I do like the galvanized ones, but not for the kitchen—you have to use your hands to lift the lid.
If it is a wicker basket, it would be perfect for used napkins, dishtowels, and the like. We seem to go through a lot--enough to wash every other day--and piling them on top of the dryer to await washing certainly isn't an attractive system.
Adding: a few months ago, my husband and I looked everywhere for a galvanized trashcan to use as a diaperpail for cloth diapers. The man at Lowe's (or Home Depot--I can't remember) didn't even know what we were talking about! The only ones we could find were at World Market, and they were ridiculously high considering their small capacity. We bought one, anyway, and it does work great.
I was totally stressing too, but then my clever hubby stopped at our local small hardware store. You know the kind with shelf space for every screw type made, ever? With decades old spray paint mixed in with new plastic versions? $16.99 for a big galvanzied can. We bought two.
Oh thank you - I knew I needed new glasses but should at least be able to tell wicker from metal. Whew!
i have 4 30 gallon galvonized trash cans in my garage, they were left there by the previous owners of the home. there is no way in hell those things would go anywhere in my house even if they were brand-spankin new.
aside: lol at the wicker!
