Furious Costco Members Threaten to Leave over Credit Card Debacle

This past June, Costco transitioned from using American Express to exclusively Visa, and it hasn't been a smooth ride. The transition required 11 million of Costco's 81 million members to switch from the TrueEarnings American Express Costco card to the Costco Anywhere Visa. Many issues arose, including people not receiving their new card and spending hours on the phone trying to reach customer support.

Despite the fact that many loyal Costco members are now threatening to leave, Costco and Citi — the primary manager of the credit card transition — have expressed that the transition has been a success. They are reporting there have been almost 900,000 new applications for credit cards.
