• Other highlights: I wasn't familiar with Red Jacket Orchards in New York before paging though this book, but now I want to visit. If the lush images of peach trees and heavy clusters of grapes are any indication, it seems like a magical place.
And who better to advise us on putting our summer fruits to good use than Brian Nicholson, owner and farmer of Red Jacket Orchards? This book walks us through the fruits of the seasons, starting with rhubarb and finishing with quince. Sweet and savory recipes are given for each fruit, along with advice for growing the fruit yourself, information on varieties, and tips on choosing the best fruits for our cooking.
But this is a cookbook for all seasons, so don't wait too long to discover the final section of the book, which is devoted to preserving the fruits of the season at their peak. This section includes jams, jellies, and chutneys a-plenty, but I have to say that I'm most intrigued by the ideas for making vinegars, shrubs, liqueurs, and juices!
