Whether you enjoy drinking smoothies for breakfast, lunch, or snack, you can always have a delicious one ready to go with this time-saving tip from Muffin Tin Mania.
Instead of rounding up smoothie ingredients such as bananas, greens, and protein powder on the spot, Muffin Tin Mania's Matt Kadey recommends blending a batch ahead of time. Freeze the mixture in muffin tins and then store in a zip-top bag for later. When you're in the mood for a smoothie, you can quickly toss a couple of these frozen smoothie cups in a blender with liquid such as water, coconut water, or milk.
Matt says he prefers silicone muffin cups, which are easier to unmold. If you use metal pans, you might need to place the tray in warm water for a few seconds.

I have been using muffin tins to freeze other things into single portions. This is genius. Great idea - I hate having to drag out the blender and ingredients so I rarely drink smoothies.
My wife makes spinach, banana, orange smoothies in our Blendtec (YES! It blends!). Leftovers are put into "take and toss" cups and frozen.
We thaw them slightly and chop up with a fork before giving them to my two-year-old. For the longest time, his favorite "ice cream" flavor was spinach. ;)
In hot weather, the smoothie gets poured into popsicle molds and no thawing is required. My daughter is envied her "breakfast popsicles" but they're nothing but yogurt, fruit, and juice or milk to thin (no sweetener). Form makes all the dif sometimes (see "spinach ice cream," above).
The breakfast popsicles are a brilliant idea! Now if only I could get my late sleeper/slow eater up early enough to eat one.
Another vote r the smoothie Popsicle! I make them all the time for our 3 yo. Great way to get good stuff not her, in a fun way. And yes, we do have Popsicles for breakfast too!
I do pureed fruits or veggies in one ounce servings (typical ice cube tray) for our baby. It's perfect, I just grab a cube of this or that. If he doesn't like something, I can cook/make drinks with it!
Instead of smoothies though, I'd blend ingredients you like .A ziploc of single serving banana, spinach, yogurt, etc. So when you want a smoothie grab a few of what you want. So its not the same smoothie everytime, more what you're in the mood for.
I've heard that heating protein powder makes it less effective or available (not sure which word to use), so I wonder if freezing and thawing would have the same effect? This would make my morning routine less hectic, for sure.
GENIUS! Smoothies are my go-to for hurried mornings (protein powder, spinach, banana, almond milk, some sort of berry and GO) and I almost can't believe I didn't think of this. I'll have to give it a try.
I've been doing this for forever with ice cube trays. Three cubes is perfect for the small one. For popsicles I just blend straight up fruit; melon and pineapple work particularly well.
I love freezing things in muffins tins then popping them into a plastic bag to save space in the freezer.
