Valentine's day is just around the corner, and if you have a special someone in your life (or even if you don't), you may want to make a few drinks. These gin and tonic variations are labeled 'his' and 'hers', but don't let yourself be limited. I enjoy a nice manly cocktail every now and then - and the pretty pink 'hers' variation is so delicious that men might find themselves reaching for it by the end of the night.
I was inspired in my creation by this earlier attempt at 'his and hers' gin and tonics. This time, I decided to go big, with Averna, an Italian amaro, for the guys, and St. Germain and grapefruit for the ladies. Just the thing for a romantic night in.

Combine the gin and amaro over ice. Squeeze the orange, drop it in, and add the tonic water. Stir and serve.
'Her' Gin and Tonic
makes 1 cocktail
2 oz gin
1 oz St. Germain elderflower liqueur
.75 oz fresh-squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice
1 oz tonic water
Combine the gin, St. Germain, and grapefruit in a glass with ice. Add the tonic water. Stir and serve.
Nancy Mitchell thinks gin goes great with those little candy hearts. You can find more of her recipes on her blog, The Backyard Bartender.

Ooooh! The boyfriend loves gin & tonics - thanks for the idea for V Day celebrations! Grapefruit and elderflower also sounds delicious, but I will probably substitute IKEA elderflower syrup for the St. Germain, if only because I already have it.
I will be drinking enough for the two of us- as it's just me this year for the first time in a long time- happy for the recipe!
I want to try both, and my husband probably will, too. A round of each?
Your photos are so pretty for this post.
These drink recipes both sound delicious.
Less delicious? Antiquated gender stereotypes.
I'll still drink 'em, though. Thank you, Kitchn.
Yeah, I'm not sure I care for the "his" and "hers"...heteronormative stereotyping fail.
But I LOVE a G&T, and will forgive it and drink one of each. :)
Oh this is so delightful. Haven't tried the drinks, but the His & Hers is so adorable and that photograph. Will definitely be doing some convincing soon :)
I much prefer Averna to St. Germain. I'll take "His" please.
I want a drink, not a sterotype.
I knew as soon as I saw the title that people would get all offended. Because that's the way commenters on here are. Come on, people, it's cutesy and valentine-themed, nobody is trying to imply that women should only drink things that are pink.
I am all woman, and my man is a whole lotta' man, so thanks Kitchn for the yummy drinks, we'll try them out!
@AnnaLisa, word. I hear that. But they are implying (even if gently) that a "couple" is heterosexual
