With smartphones now sporting high-quality cameras and Instagram providing a platform for instant publishing, practically anyone can be a food photographer.

Has food photography gone totally mainstream? Wired thinks so.

To combat this, professional food photographers have evolved to distinguish themselves more from the amateurs. Well, at least until someone figures out how to make smartphones take good shots of food in low light.
