Well, the food blogs and boards have been buzzing all weekend with sorrow and speculation about Tastespotting's mysterious demise. We have already come across a couple of new food photo galleries that hope to fill the void left by Tastespotting. Take a look at these hopeful alternatives below...
• Food Gawker - Pretty much a direct copy of Tastespotting's gallery and submission concept. It's not quite as pretty, but it's quite well done, and we expect hungry bloggers to flock to it quickly.
• Recipes2Share - Also attempting a gallery, but not as elegantly executed.
• GroupRecipes - We also like to browse GroupRecipes' gallery of beautiful photos. These are just recipes located on their site, however; they can't be submitted from other blogs.
ETA:
• Open Source Food - Also! Just noticed Open Source Food, a slightly more ambitious community that includes recipes. Not a Tastespotting replacement, but still a good spot to browse for photos and recipes.

Thanks for the sites.
Super exciting! I can renew my mini obsession :) Thank you so much for posting the info!
Hello,
Many thanks for mentioning us here (recipes2share) and I look forward to your visits, and appreciate the visits we have had via you so far!
I would just like to say that I'm not trying to compete with what was...Tastespotting was fab & I was a great fan myself. In response to the shut down we created a Members (photo) Gallery which was in addition to our in-site (photo) gallery. My mission is an on-line magazine in which the gallery is a beautiful, useful, fun & friendly addition to what was already there - we didn't try to re-create or clone. We have been creative in producing a light box which enlarges the images though we have further refinements to achieve in longer term. The gallery was literally produced overnight but obviously the refinements take consideration and time: we are more than open to hear any constructive comments (please!). You will find a contact us at the site.
This was a huge (personal) task to undertake and we have received very positive feedback and i would like to think we sites can all compliment each other in our services offered (though we now have a direct URL: www.recipes2share.com/gallery if you wish to by-pass our main site).
I am a professional Home Economist, though this is a non-commercial site in which we take great pride, passion & view very seriously. Your visits and comments are always more than welcome. Thank you again for listing us! Fiona
..just re-loaded and seen the open source description. i don't want to 'go on' but take a FULL look at our site..the recipes are original & tested along with articles, reviews & blogs...R2S is NOT just a photo site, I've spent over a year filling it with content! Sorry, I do sound as if I'm 'going on'a bit!! Fiona
thanks a lot for these links! i'm still searching for a good tastespotting substitute - i miss it so much, was part of my daily food blog routine...
this is another blog that tries to fill the space tastespotting left: food porn daily http://fpdaily.net/
Open Source Food is a very pretty site. It's definitely not the same type of site as Tastespotting...but it does have a lot of food porn. They were named in Time's 50 Best Websites along with Apartment Therapy.
Looks like FoodGawker (being a close clone) is going to be the most likely replacement for most people.
www.recipemuncher.com is a good one too.
There is a site like this for beer now called BeerCraving.com
