Elsewhere in the world, pizza isn't always the pizza you know. It might have a crust, it might be round, but sometimes that's where the similarity ends. Here's a glimpse at some unusual — and occasionally tasty-looking — pizzas from around the world.
(Of course, I should note that "weird" is a relative term. One photo of a Hawaiian-style pizza I found on Flickr had a comment, "Pineapple on pizza...weird!")
TOP ROW
• Japan: This Pizza Hut ad boasts a pizza topped with hamburger, edamame, corn and more, surrounded by a wiener-stuffed roll crust that is meant to be topped with a "fruity ketchup."
• Scotland: What does a "pizza crunch supper" look like? It's a couple pieces of pizza, battered and deep-fried, and served with a side of chips.
• Norway: Speaking of chips, here's a pizza topped with french fries.
• Australia: And if you prefer your chips in tortilla form, you might like this "Mexican" pizza topped with tortilla chips, pickled jalapenos, and massive gobs of sour cream.
• India: A pizza topped with the spicy Indian dish called butter chicken actually sounds (and looks) really good.
BOTTOM ROW
• Korea: Back to Asia and its wiener obsession again with this pizza, which includes a cheese-stuffed roll crust and a healthy spiral of mayonnaise on top.
• Germany: A thin-crusted pizza topped with rich curry sounds intriguing, but the comments about it are unambiguous: "Was weird. Not bad. But weird."
What's the weirdest pizza you've ever eaten?

The Australian "Mexican" and Indian pizza looks and sounds really good to me.
Well, I find American pizza very weird. Like, pizza with pineapple? Seriously?
These look interesting - but did you know about the absolutely over the top Cheeseburger Crown Crust Pizza that was launched earlier this year in the Middle East?
You can read the review here: http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/fast-food-fans-pilgrimage-from-new-york-to-dubai & watch the commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MWDwZWCfp64
I lived in Guatemala one summer and they had hot dog pizza EVERYWHERE. I could never bring myself to try it though.
You guys don't have Taco Pizza where you live? Must be a midwestern thing I guess... it's delicious!
I've eaten Smoked Reindeer Pizza in Helsinki (no joke - and it was good), tunafish pizza in Berlin (yuck), and Kangaroo Pizza in Australia. Now I realize I need to go back to Asia and try their weird wiener pizzas!
How countries top their pizzas is always so interesting to me! I was in a pizza hut in Indonesia (don't ask why, terrible!) and there was pizza with fried fish, potato chips and mayo on it. Baby corn on pizza is another south east asian pizza favorite.
Starbucks pastries are another one. It's absolutely fascinating to see how the culinary traditions/tastes are incorporated.
Thick crust, cheesy pizza is pretty weird.
Australia and India, yes. The rest, pass!
This looks like a menu from Ian's Pizza here in Wisco to me http://www.ianspizza.com/
My fave is either the Eggplant Parm Pizza or the Macaroni & Cheese Pizza.
There's a place near me (in Massachusetts) that serves a pizza topped with hearts of palm, corn, and mayonnaise, which sounds gross to me, but whenever I call and order a pepperoni and pineapple pizza they seem slightly grossed out - they do a good job with it though.
I've had tandoori chicken pizza before and it's delicious.
Owning up to it - I've had a bite of the Scottish fried pie (no, I didn't order it, but a friend did and since I was eating the deep fried haggis, I figured I couldn't exactly turn up my nose at much else...
It was weird. Not bad, but weird...
I had some quality frozen pizza in Scotland topped with haggis, which as it turns out, is an awesome pizza topping. Mmm.
I am still scratching my head over the concept of chicken on a pizza here in the US.
Is kangaroo pizza a pocket pizza or does it have actual kangaroo on it?
I had a veggie pizza in Poland that was basically a bag of frozen veggies sprinkled over a pizza (peas, corn, and tiny pieces of carrot).
Swedish pizza....yum! I was there on vacation this past summer and crave it constantly! I don't know what it is, but I can't find anything close to it here in the States. Is it the cheese.....the crust???? Who knows, but it is delish! Some of my favorites were kabob, banana curry and funghi pizza.
Omgosh that Scottish pizza looks YUMMY.
I had the same pizza @illuminatedpst in London. It will forever live in my mind as the worst pizza ever. The sauce was like bad ketchup. Oh, London...
As an vegetarian exchange student in Kyoto years ago, I ordered a pizza in a family restaurant & used all of my practiced phrases: Vegetarian, only vegetable, no meat, please. I was rewarded with a mini pizza covered in octopus, squid, shrimp, and tiny fish.I think I cried a little bit.
Years later, I was back in Japan and discovered the joy that is Tabasco with pizza. Now I can't eat it without.
Actual kangaroo, I'm guessing. We're one of the few countries that eat our national animals.
(I tried it back in my meat-eating days. It's... certainly an acquired taste. I didn't care for it at all.)
@lazy-lurker, actually tuna fish pizza is a pretty usual Italian pizza. With capers or with onion.
I'm not sure about the authenticity of the Berlin version, though.
My weirdest pizza, in Japan, of course: teriyaki chicken, mayonnaise and seaweed. And many other things I can't remember.
Should I add I've just seen the recipe of Southwestern pizza and looks so weird to me?
There's a pizza place in my town that makes unusual pizzas, one time I had a slice that had spicy black beans as pizza sauce, and it was covered with green onions, cheese, and Fritos. It was SO delicious. http://pieholeusa.com/
